The house is the amenity.
No spa, no theater, no concierge desk. A real kitchen. A garden. A front porch. Rooms that look like rooms in someone’s house, because they are.
Bedrooms
Six private bedrooms. Four have private bathrooms; two share a bathroom across the hall. Every room has a window facing the garden or the street. Residents bring their own furniture, photos, art, books, quilts — the room is theirs.
Rooms range from 140 to 220 square feet. If you want to see the floor plan, ask during your visit; we’ll walk you through which rooms are currently available.
Common rooms
Two living rooms — one with the fireplace, one with the piano. Both have ample seating, good light, and a real coffee table. Books, magazines, a few games. The TV is in the smaller living room; the larger one is quiet.
The kitchen
This is where most of the day’s energy is. Maria cooks breakfast and lunch; Sarah cooks dinner most weeknights; on Sundays we make something larger together. Residents help if they want to — peeling potatoes, setting the table, kneading bread dough. The kitchen is open to residents at all times; we keep the dangerous things locked.
Meals
Three meals plus two snacks daily, all cooked on-site. Dietary needs are honored — diabetic, low-sodium, soft food, kosher-style, vegetarian. Favorite foods are remembered. Birthdays are noticed. Sunday dinner is the largest meal of the week and family is always invited.
The garden
A vegetable garden, a small flower bed, two raised beds for residents who want to plant something. Tomatoes, basil, lettuce, beans in summer. A few residents help with watering; one tends the herbs.
The porch
Wraparound, covered, with five chairs and a small table. The most-used room in the house from May through October. Coffee in the morning, lemonade in the afternoon, watching the neighborhood go by.
Accessibility
The entire house is wheelchair-accessible. Single-story, no thresholds, wide doorways, grab bars in every bathroom, roll-in showers in two of the four private baths. Motion-sensor lighting in hallways and bathrooms. A nurse-call system in every bedroom and bathroom.
